Building Effective Teams and Teamwork

Team productivity largely depends on the processes and their placement in the team, the role of team members, and their relationship is also a big factor as this affects the work environment. The conditions that help the team to excel is having all members on the same page as a team having the same goal will be a united front and will have a large impact on efficiency as efficiency mainly depends on the processes that require less amount of input from members but have the capability of achieving higher outputs. A proper form of communication needs to be in place so that all members can communicate effectively, planning of work, discussing timelines with everyone and deliverable dates need to be addressed together along with that each member should be appreciated and utilized to their full strength and given space to growth such conditions are required to help team excel.

The role of a good leader plays an important for a better design of teamwork as they help to establish teamwork and this behavior trickles from the top level in the organization to the bottom. The team should follow certain guidelines in the team to have better communication to increase productivity along with that team-building exercises should also be held on a monthly basis as it provides the team a different platform other than work. The purpose of the team and the work that they are doing should be understood by all, good work should be recognized and rewarded as it gives employees satisfaction and motivation for future work. “Extrapolating from the past successes of the science of teams, this challenge should be well within the capabilities of the field. Though teams are complex, their benefits are salient and tangible. It is the responsibility of the field to ensure that the science continues to inform the successes of teams in the years to follow.”

Teamwork can be rewarded in various ways such as mentioning the effort of the team in organization-wide emails, recognizing work, and appreciating the efforts in person, team members can also be promoted and given incentives and bonuses based on work and they can be given vacation days. “The importance of one’s position to the team effort is likely to be strongly linked to one’s individual performance as a team member.”

The team designs that are effective for performance building of teams as well as the threats that should be avoided to avoid impact on the work environment of teams as well as teams being rewarded for their work, will help to improve efficiency and increase work productivity as employees will feel more ownership towards their work. The team works more effectively if all members are good team players and advocate for each other and boost each other’s confidence instead of pulling each other down. They should be able to utilize each other strengths and weaknesses in the best way possible as it will help to produce more output and increase the velocity of the team which is a great way to achieve goals in the long run for the organization. In these situations, team leader plays a vital role in managing the members and leading them in a way that is good for everyone, benefits all individuals as well as provides a platform for them to grow personally also and as part of the team.

Conclusion

To build good team culture steps should be followed such as creating open discussion forums, having a weekly meeting for a status update which helps to provide a better picture on the timeline of the assigned task as well as team members can chime in to help each other if time permits, this will create a better environment and provide a friendly atmosphere and will also help to increase productivity. The designing of the team is an important step to have a team which is happy and productive while working together as people with similar mindsets can also be not good for work as their thoughts will be aligned, so a mix and match of people should be put together as they can work together and bring a different perspective to the team and provide a better outcome. Teams being rewarded for their work as this will help to improve efficiency and increase work productivity as employees will feel more ownership of their work. The team should have month-end retrospective meetings so that they can discuss, how the flow of work is happening between them and it will help to find any blockers or issue that are arising as it will bring any of the threats that can hinder team productivity on the team and members can work on resolving them. It will also help to keep track of items and areas that need to be worked on and improved. This will also give a platform to appreciate when things are going smoothly in the team and work efficiency is being achieved, it will give members a forum to give shout outs and praises to each other which helps to boost the morale of the team and bring confidence in them of being a good team player.
