The benefit of taking a benefit is having a copy of the database, information and data on the computer or the server so when we have a loss, deletion or device malfunction we can restore our data from our backup which we have our information intact and ready to use. The strategy behind creating backup is have possibility of restoration of the lost information at later stage of the work which helps us from loss of information and files. There are various backup strategies such as –

1. Cloud/Online/Remote Backup

2. FTP Backup

3. Full PC Backup

4. Mirror Backup

5. Differential Backup

6. Incremental Backup

7. External Drive

Cloud/Online/Remote Backup — Online, Remote and Cloud Backup are terms used interchangeably, in this data is backed up when the source is connected over the internet and happens continuously. Remote Data Backup is the server located in a remote location and away from main server but has all the data from the main cloud. The storage space is accessed with the login credentials and the medium is offsite. Various providers are available that provide cloud/online storage facilities and based on requirement user can choose the plans. The priority of the remote server is to protect client’s information and secure it.

Mirror Backup — In this type of backup strategy as the name suggest is a mirror of the source being backed up. In mirror backups, if the file is altered or updated in the source it is reflected in the back up file. Same in the case of file deletion, if the file is deleted same will happen in the backup so we need to be careful and sure when making a deletion as in case of device getting affected with virus and malware.

Cloud backup strategies have multiple advantages such as-

1. It provides accessibility along with scalability.

2. It is very efficient and reliable.

3. It has better recovery and response time for small data.

4. It provides better protection option for all type of devices such as phones, tablets, laptops etc.

Conclusion

Backup strategy is very important, and it helps us to avoid any kind of information and data loss if there is some malfunction with our devices, it helps us to secure our data and have a copy of it based on the strategy we like as we have multiple ways to store our data. To have files stored in an external drive is a very good option and it helps us to have an easy access to the files compared to the cloud backup where there is some lag for larger data sets. The advantage to cloud backup is it is accessible from anywhere with the login credentials and you do not need to carry any type of drive with you. With other type of backup, we need to be careful while deleting as in case of mirror as it will delete both the copies but in case of cloud/online or remote backup we can select these based on our choice which is good. Incremental and Differential Backup are like each other, they are updated once the file has been changed since the last back.
